
Chiefs set to celebrate holiday weekend with fireworks

The Peoria Chiefs will celebrate the 4th of July weekend with fireworks shows on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. With the team on the road for the 4th, the game Sunday July 3rd is a 6:30 start with a spectacular post-game fireworks show that will be set to patriotic music.
The weekend festivities kick off Friday, July 1 with a 7:00 PM start against the Burlington Bees (Kansas City Royals). Jesse Estrada will take the mound against Bees RH Kyle Crist. Following the game will be the first of three straight fireworks shows from Central State Fireworks.
On Saturday, July 2, BirdZerk will make an appearance at O'Brien Field as the Chiefs host the Bees at 6:30 PM. All-Star starter Sean Gallagher (8-2, 1.43) will be on the mound. On Monday, Gallagher took a perfect game into the 5th inning and allowed just two hits on the game. Sean leads all of Minor League Baseball in ERA and is 2nd in the Midwest League in strikeouts. BirdZerk returns to Peoria on Saturday to entertain fans during the game. Birdzerk has made hundreds of appearances around the world in stadiums and arenas and will bring good, clean fun to Peoria. A spectacular fireworks show will follow the game presented by Advance Auto Parts
Sunday, June 3 is the final home game of the week as the Chiefs and Bees end their four-game series. This is the only Sunday night game of the season at O'Brien Field since the Chiefs are on the road at Kane County on the 4th of July. All-Star Matt Weber will start for the Chiefs against Patrick Green of the Bees. The fireworks show after Sunday's game will be set to patriotic music and is presented by AmerenCilco.

Chiefs Win Two of Three From Cedar Rapids
The Peoria Chiefs took two of three from the Cedar Rapids Kernels to start the homestand behind strong pitching performances. On Monday, Sean Gallagher took a perfect game into the 5th inning before surrendering a one out double. He threw seven shutout innings to lower his ERA to 1.43 as the Chiefs won 6-2 with homers from Luis Montanez, Mike Mallory and Aaron Sisk. On Tuesday the Kernels got a great effort from starter Karl Gelinas who fell behind early but shut the Chiefs down after the 3rd inning. He lasted eight innings and beat the Chiefs 5-2. Grant Johnson struggled out of the gate Wednesday night with three first inning walks but recovered to take a no-hitter into the 6th inning. He finished the game with a career high six strikeouts and just one hit allowed over six innings. Adalberto Mendez and Jerry Blevins blanked the Kernels over the final three innings as the Chiefs won 3-0, their 5th shutout of the season. The win was Johnson's first professional win.
Gates to Open One Hour Before Game Time
The Peoria Chiefs have announced a change in gameday policy. Effective immediately in the second half of the season gates will open one hour prior to game time. This is a change from the first half when gates opened 90 minutes prior to the first pitch. Please make a note of new Gates Opening one hour prior to game time.
