Trenton Thunder News Release
Trenton, NJ - In front of 6,629 fans on Opening Night at Mercer County Waterfront Park, the Trenton Thunder (2-5) fell to the Harrisburg Senators (3-4) 4-2. Shaeffer Hall (0-1, 5.23) took the loss, surrendering two runs in 5.1 innings, and Cody Johnson hit the first Waterfront Park homerun for the Thunder in 2011.
Johnson's long ball came in the bottom of the sixth inning when the Thunder designated hitter smacked a 2-1 pitch from Senator lefty Cory VanAllen over the left-center field wall, cutting the Senator lead to 2-1.
After Naoya Okamoto walked-in two runs in the top of the ninth, extending Harrisburg's lead to 4-1, the Thunder would bring the tying run to the plate in the bottom half of the frame. After a Corban Joseph double and Ray Kruml RBI single, Austin Krum flew out to deep right-center field on a sliding catch made by Senator center fielder Jonathan Tucker to end the contest.
Game two of the four-game series is Friday at 7:05 PM and will feature a pitching matchup of RHP Graham Stoneburner (0-1, 1.80) for Trenton and RHP Ryan Tatusko (0-1, 4.50) for Harrisburg. Tune-in to the game on 91.3 WTSR-FM and on trentonthunder.com. The SBLI Pre-Game Show with Jay Burnham and Hank Fuerst begins at 6:45 PM on the Trenton Thunder Radio Network.
