
'Wolves Drop Series Opener to Baysox 2-1

The SeaWolves opened up their first road trip of the seasonwith a 2-1 loss to the Bowie Baysox on Thursday night at Prince George'sStadium.
The Baysox got on the board first in the bottom of thesecond against Erie starter L.J. Gagnier when Pedro Florimon hit a one-out,solo home run to right for a 1-0 Bowie lead.
Bowie extended its lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth.Brandon Waring led off the inning with his first triple of the season off thewall in right. After Caleb Joseph was hit by a pitch, Ronnie Welty singled homeWaring for the game's second run. Gagnier battled back and retired the finalthree of the inning on a strike out-throw out double play and a fly out toleft.
Erie's lone run came in the top of the fifth againstreliever Cole McCurry. Audy Ciriaco led off with his first triple of theseason. With one out, Francisco Martinez grounded out, scoring Ciriaco makingit a 2-1 game. Erie would get no closer.
Baysox pitchers limited Erie to just a pair of hits over thefinal four innings of the game. Jose Diaz worked a 1-2-3 ninth, picking up histhird save.
Gagnier (1-1) worked a season-high four innings, allowing two runs on threehits with two walks and a season-best eight strikeouts. He set down the finaleight hitters he faced in the game, five on strikeouts.
The SeaWolves and Baysox play game two of a four-gameseries on Friday night at Prince George's Stadium...7:05 First Pitch. Righty LukePutkonen (0-0, 1.80 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against LHP Rick Zagone (0-0,0.00 ERA).
