Bowie Baysox Make Roster Moves

BOWIE, Md. - The Bowie Baysox announce a series of roster moves today. RHP Steve Johnson was transferred to class Triple-A Norfolk, and 1B Joe Mahoney was placed on the 7-day disabled list, retroactive to Tuesday, April 12. RHP Cole McCurry was transferred to Bowie from class Single-A Frederick and IF Miguel Abreu was transferred to Bowie from class Single-A Frederick. With the moves, the Baysox have 23 active players on their 24-man roster.

Johnson made one start for Bowie this season, holding the Harrisburg Senators scoreless over 4.0 innings on one hit and four walks while striking out five. Last year, the right-hander was 7-8 with a 5.09 ERA over 145.0 innings while striking out 128. He led the Baysox in starts, innings pitched and strikeouts last season.

Mahoney was batting .143 (1-7) in two games this season before the injury. Last year the left-hander hit .319 (61-191) for Bowie, launching nine home runs and collecting 29 RBIs in 52 games. He is eligible to come off the disabled list Tuesday, April 19.

McCurry appeared in one game for the Frederick Keys this season, throwing a perfect inning with one strikeout. Last season, he appeared in 30 games for the Keys, making 12 starts and going 5-6 with a 4.23 ERA over 95.2 innings pitched. He walked 46 and struck out 101 batters.

Abreu was hitless in two games for the Keys this year. He was an Eastern League All-Star for Bowie in 2009, and was named the All-Star Game's top star. He struggled with the Baysox last year, batting .198 (25-126) in 33 games, with three home runs and 15 RBIs.
