Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Pelicans again struck first, it was the third time in four games the Pelicans have plated a run in the first inning, but that didn't halt the Dash as they went on to pick up the 4-2 win in the opening game of the three-game series.

The Pelicans got started quickly as Cole Miles opened the game with a base hit. With two outs and Miles at second, reigning Carolina League Player of the Week Donell Linares picked up an RBI double to extend his hit streak to nine and plate Miles to put Myrtle Beach up 1-0.

The Dash answered in the bottom of the inning as Dale Mollenhauer tripled off the left field wall and scored on a sacrifice fly to right by Greg Paiml a batter later. Pelican starter Richard Sullivan settled down after that, retiring the next 10 batters he faced until Jimmy Gallagher homered with the bases empty and a man out to put the Dash up 2-1 in the fourth.

Sullivan would allow another pair of runs in the seventh. Salvador Sanchez doubled to start the inning then, the next batter Logan Johnson homered to right putting the Dash up 4-1. Sullivan (2-2) pitched out of the seventh and was finished after that having allowed all four runs, three earned, on five hits. He walked two and struck out six while taking his second loss of the season.

The Pelicans tacked on a run in the top of the eighth when Chad Lundahl, who singled to open the inning, scored from third on a sacrifice fly by Miles to make the score 4-2 which is how it stayed.

Dash starter Jacob Rasner (1-0) got credit for the win as he went five innings allowing just one run on three hits while tallying three strikeouts. Santo Luis (6) pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the save.

The series continues tomorrow night as the Pelicans take on the Dash for the middle game of the three-game set beginning at 7:00 at Wake Forest Baseball Park in Winston-Salem, NC. The Pelicans will start lefty Cole Rohrbough against Dash right hander Johnnie Lowe.
