Winston-Salem, NC - Three Winston-Salem pitchers combined to quiet the bats of Myrtle Beach and a pair of home runs propelled the Dash to a 4-2 win over the Pelicans on Monday night at Wake Forest Baseball Park. Winston-Salem (25-25) maintained their hold on first place in the Southern Division as they limited Myrtle Beach to two runs on five hits and claimed their third consecutive victory.

The Pelicans put a run on the board against Jacob Rasner in the top of the first inning. Rasner, who was making just his second start of the season, surrendered a leadoff single to Cole Miles. After a sacrifice bunt by Robert Marcial advanced the runner to second, Donell Linares plated Miles with a double to give Myrtle Beach a 1-0 lead. The Dash knotted the score at one in the bottom of the first when second baseman Dale Mollenhauer led off with a triple and scored on shortstop Greg Paiml's sacrifice fly.

Winston-Salem took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth inning at 2-1 when first baseman Jimmy Gallagher lifted a solo home run off Myrtle Beach starting pitcher Richard Sullivan. The Dash extended its lead in the bottom of the seventh inning when center fielder Salvador Sanchez doubled and catcher Logan Johnson blasted a two-run home run to extend Winston-Salem's advantage to 4-1.

The Pelicans trimmed their deficit to two in the eighth inning when Miles lifted a sacrifice fly that scored Chad Lundahl. Dash hurler Levi Maxwell came out of the bullpen for the first time this season and tossed three innings and surrendered a run on two hits with four strikeouts. Winston-Salem closer Santo Luis retired the side in order in the ninth to collect his sixth save of the season.

Rasner (1-0) departed after he tossed a season-high five innings and limited the Pelicans to one run on three hits with three strikeouts to garner the win. Sullivan (2-2) worked seven innings and gave up four runs (three earned) on five hits with six strikeouts to suffer the loss for the Pelicans.

The Dash and Pelicans continue their three-game series with game two on Tuesday evening at Wake Forest Baseball Park. Winston-Salem will send RHP Johnnie Lowe (3-1, 4.67) to the mound, while Myrtle Beach is expected to start LHP Cole Rohrbough (2-2, 2.70). The first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.
