June 1, 2009 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release
The Lynchburg Hillcats scored five straight runs to come from behind and defeat the Frederick Keys tonight, 5-3.
The Keys jumped out to an early lead in the first. Leadoff hitter CF Matt Angle doubled down the right field line. SS Pedro Florimon laid down a sacrafice bunt, advancing Angle to third. The speedster scored on 3B Tyler Henson's ground out to short, giving Frederick a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Keys extended the lead. With one on and two down, RF Billy Rowell blasted his seventh homerun of the season, an opposite field shot to left-center, giving Frederick a 3-0 lead.
Frederick starter RHP Pedro Beato cruised through the first four frames, facing just two over the minimum. The Hillcats finally got to him in the fifth. With one man down, DH Jared Keel hit a solo homerun to get the Hillcats on the scoreboard.
That wasn't it for Lynchburg. LF Maiko Loyola singled and CF Alex Presley worked a walk. 2B Jose De Los Santos moved them up a base with a ground ball out to short. With runners on second and third and two down, SS Jordy Mercer delivered a two-run single to tie the ball game at three.
The Hillcats took the lead in the sixth. 1B Matt Hague led off the inning with his third homerun of the season to give Lynchburg a 4-3 advantage. The Hillcats would later tack on another run on an RBI single from CF Alex Presley.
The two runs were all the Hillcats pitchers would need. LHP Paul Mildren, RHP Christian Castorri and RHP Michael Dubee combined to set down 14 Frederick hitters in a row. Dubee was the most impressive of the group. The right-hander pitched the final two innings and struck out six batters.
Mildren got the win, improving his record to 3-4. Beato was credited with the loss. He's now 3-4 as well. Dubee picked up his fifth save of the season.
The Keys and the Hillcats will meet in game two of a three-game series tomorrow evening at Harry Grove Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
