Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs welcomed back their manager on Monday, as Tim Johnson made his return to the team. Johnson had been on medical leave for just over a month, and underwent a pair of minor surgical procedures in mid-July.

"It's good to be back," Johnson said. "I want to thank everyone-people in the Saltdogs organization, other people across the league, and especially the fans-for all their kinds words and concern while I was gone. It was tough to be away, of course, and it's always a little scary to deal with medical issues, but I feel about as good now as I've felt in a long time. We've got a lot of talent on the roster now, and hopefully, we can finish strong and get back into the playoffs."

Johnson, who's led Lincoln to three division titles over the past two seasons (both halves of the 2006 season, plus the 2007 first-half division crown), re-joins the team one game into the final homestand of the 2008 season, with Lincoln just a game and a half out of first place in the American Association North. In his absence, pitching coach Jim Haller took over as interim manager, guiding the team to a 17-12 mark. However, the Saltdogs announced on Monday that neither Haller nor third-base coach Mike Workman would remain with the club.

"Jim did a great job while I was gone, he really did," Johnson said. "We just had some differences of opinion on where to go from here, and after talking about it for a while, we mutually decided that this was the best way to go."

Lincoln won a hard-earned 1-0 victory over St. Paul Monday night in Johnson's return to the dugout.
