
Young does it again, RBI single in 9th wins it for Sioux City

SIOUX CITY, IA -- Ft. Worth scored 2 runs in the top of the 9th to tie the game at 6-6 but Walter Young scored Dustin Jones on a looping single to left to win the game for the Explorers 7-6 on Monday night at Lewis & Clark Park.
Jones drew a leadoff walk from Cat reliever Brian Martin and was bunted over to 2nd by Alex Llanos bringing up the veteran Young. With first base open, Ft. Worth manager Chad Treadaway decided to pitch to him and Young blooped one into left field scoring Jones easily to win the game for the X's.
Sioux City had a 6-4 lead going into the 9th but Brett Reid ran into trouble, giving up a 1 out walk to Charles Carter and Ken Lup reached on an error by Nick McCoola. After pinch hitter Osiel Flores struck out, Brian Fryer came to bat. Last night, Fryer struck out to end the game but on this night, he lined a single to left to score 2 runs and tie the game. Both runs were unearned.
The X's scored first on the night on a double play ball by Llanos that brought home Jason Tuttle but Ft. Worth scored 2 in the 2nd ooff of X's starter Paige Dumont n a RBI infield single by Ken Lup and an Explorers error on Llanos to make it 2-1 Cats.
Sioux City came back with a 2 out 2 run triple by Derek Schermerhorn and then McCoola delivered a 2 out 2 run single in the 5th to build a 6-2 lead.
The Cats scored 2 more off of Dumont in the 6th on a sac fly by Nilson Teilon and a RBI single by John Allen. Ft. Worth would tie it in the 9th setting up the dramatics by Young in the bottom of the 9th.
Reid blew his 3rd save of the year but got the win, improving to 3-0. Martin got the loss, falling to 1-1. Llanos went 2-4 with a double, RBI, and run. Chris Grossman went 2-2 with 2 walks and 2 runs scored.
Sioux City stayed a game and a half ahead of Lincoln and Sioux Falls in the North after both teams won on Monday. The X's will try to make it 3 in a row on Tuesday night and are still undecided about their starter while Ft. Worth will go with Lee Gwaltney (8-2). Game time on Tuesday is 7:05, tickets still available by calling 277-WINS.
