Ty Marotz named Pitcher of the Week

DURHAM, NC - PA-Sportsticker, the official statistician of the American Association, has selected Sioux City Explorers RHP Ty Marotz as the Teamline Direct Pitcher of the Week. Fort Worth Cats DH John Allen was selected as the Batter of the Week.

Marotz made two appearances this past week for Sioux City, one as a starter and one as a reliever. Combined, the 26-year-old went 1-0 and did not allow a run in seven innings pitched. He gave up six hits while walking one and striking out nine. On the season, Marotz is 3-3 with a 3.12 earned run average in 57 2/3 innings pitched.

The resident of Crystal Lake, IL is currently in his fourth year of professional baseball. In 2005, Marotz pitched for Joliet of the Northern League. In 2006-2007, he was with the Explorers going a combined 3-5 with a 4.00 ERA.

Allen played in six games this past week for the playoff bound Cats. He batted .480 with three home runs, seven RBI and four runs scored. The Wichita Falls, TX native also collected 12 hits to go with an on-base percentage of .519 and a slugging percentage of .880. Allen is currently hitting .327 on the year with 15 home runs, 52 RBI and 106 hits. He is tied for second in the American Association in extra base hits (39), tied for third in slugging percentage (.546), fourth in hits and tied for fourth in home runs.

The 26-year-old is now playing in his fourth season with the Cats. Allen spent part of last season with the Brockton Rox of the Can-Am League.

The Explorers will play the Ft. Worth Cats tonight in Game two of their 4 game series at Lewis & Clark Park. Paige Dumont will start for the Explorers while Dan Grybash will get the call for the Cats. Tickets are available by calling 277-WINS.
