Trenton Thunder News Release

(Trenton, NJ) - The Trenton Thunder (34-21) came from behind once again to beat the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (35-20) 4-3 in walk-off, extra inning fashion. With one out and the bases loaded in the tenth inning, Cody Johnson laced a single into right field to bring home Ray Kruml to give the Thunder the win. Jose Pirela started the Thunder comeback with his two-run triple in the fourth inning, and DeAngelo Mack added a 4-4 night for Trenton. The win pulls the Thunder within one game of the first-place Fisher Cats, as Trenton will attempt to sweep New Hampshire Sunday at Waterfront Park.

The Thunder found themselves trailing early for the second time in as many nights with the Fisher Cats taking a 3-0 lead with them to the bottom of the fourth inning. But, the Thunder would once again come from behind and erase a multi-run deficit. With two outs in the frame and runners at first and second, Jose Pirela drove a triple into the right field corner, scoring two to cut the New Hampshire lead to just one run. One batter later, DeAngelo Mack doubled on a line drive to left-centerfield to score Pirela and tie the game at 3-3.

The score would remain tied for five more frames as the two teams played their first extra inning affair in 2011. In the bottom of the tenth against Philadelphia-native and Fisher Cat reliever Frank Gailey, the Thunder would strike to record their fifth walk-off win this year. With the bases loaded and one out, Cody Johnson lined a single into right field to score Ray Kruml from third and give the Thunder a 4-3 win in ten innings.

Thunder starting pitcher Dellin Betances received his fifth no decision of the 2011 season, hurling five and two thirds innings. The righty from Brooklyn, who is also considered the Yankees' top pitching prospect, gave up two earned runs on four hits, five walks and five strikeouts.

The Thunder and Fisher Cats will wrap-up their three-game series from Waterfront Park Sunday at 1:05 PM. RHP Craig Heyer (4-3, 2.77) will get the pearl for Trenton, while New Hampshire will counter with RHP Henderson Alvarez (2-0, 1.50). Tune-in to the game on 91.3 WTSR-FM and on trentonthunder.com. The SBLI Pre-Game Show with Jay Burnham and Hank Fuerst begins at 12:45 PM.

The first 1,500 fans ages five to 15 to Sunday's game will receive Thunder Logo Baseballs. Sunday is also the Thunder's annual Autism Awareness Day, an opportunity to raise funds and awareness for autism.
