TONIGHT: The Richmond Flying Squirrels and Reading Phillies will meet in game two of a three-game series...Right-hander Austin Hyatt and two relievers combined on a five-hit shutout of the Flying Squirrels as the R-Phils topped Richmond 5-0 in the series opener on Friday night in front of 7,227 fans at The Diamond.

GROUNDED SQUIRRELS: A night after tossing their fourth shutout of the season, the Flying Squirrels got shutout in the series-opener against Reading...It was the first time Richmond has been shutout this season and the first since falling to Bowie 5/17...The Flying Squirrels have been averaging two runs per game (16R/8G) over their last eight contests...The most runs scored in a game for Richmond over that stretch has been four...The club has scored two runs or less in six of those eight games...The Flying Squirrels are averaging 3.51 runs per game (190R/54G) on the season, the third-lowest average in the Eastern League.
TOUGH TIMES: Outfielder Justin Christian is batting .125 (5-for-40) over his last 11 games with seven strikeouts and four walks...His batting average has dropped from .289 to .256 over that span...Catcher Johnny Monell is 0-for-20 over his last seven games...The 25-year-old has seen his average tumble from .230 to .202...Prior to his recent skid, Monell had hits in each of his previous six games and he hit .381 (8-for-21) over that stretch.
THE LOW DOWN: Catcher Aaron Lowenstein has hits in a season-long five straight games after an error on Pedro Florimon was changed to a hit Wednesday night...The 25-year-old is 6-for-14 (.429) over that span with a double, a RBI, and a run scored.
PITCHING IN: The Flying Squirrels pitching staff leads the Eastern League with a 2.78 ERA through 54 games, the only staff with a sub-three ERA...Richmond's 2.78 staff ERA is the third-lowest in all of MiLB, trailing the Advanced-A Clearwater Threshers (2.64) and Low-A Burlington Bees (2.66)...The club ranks second in the league with 435 strikeouts, and the pitching staff has logged a league-high 498 1/3 innings of work.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN: The Flying Squirrels are in a stretch where they will play 13 of 16 games on the road...The club is 8-18 on the road, and it is batting .194 (167-for-859) and averaging 2.85 runs per game (74R/26G) in 26 road contests...Richmond recently completed a stretch of playing 10 out of 13 games at home, going 8-5 over those 13 contests...The Flying Squirrels are 17-11 at home and are batting .249 (242-for-970) in 28 games at The Diamond while averaging 4.14 runs per game at home (116R/28G).
