(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 6, 2010) - Long Island Ducks team officials today announced the signing of outfielder Joey Gathright. He plays in his ninth season of professional baseball and begins his first campaign in the Atlantic League.

Gathright has spent six seasons in the Major Leagues with four teams. Most recently, he split 2009 with the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs, combining to post a .267 average in 37 games. The speedster has also played with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and Kansas City Royals for parts of three seasons apiece. During his big league career, Gathright has compiled a .263 average with 96 RBI and 80 stolen bases in 445 games.

The 29-year-old began the 2010 season with Triple-A Norfolk in the Baltimore Orioles organization, where he played in 61 games, drove in seven runs, and stole 12 bases. Gathright was originally drafted by the Devil Rays in the 32nd round of the 2001 amateur draft.

In a corresponding roster move, the Ducks have released pitcher Julio Guerrero.
