Joey Gathright Joins Scorpions

June 10, 2011 - North American League (NAmL)
Yuma Scorpions News Release

Yuma, AZ- The Yuma Scorpions have added outfielder Joey Gathright. Gathright has been considered one of the fastest players in the Major League's during his time there. He made his MLB debut in 2004 with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Many remember Gathright for jumping over, not only a proposed tag, but also jumping over the player while running safely to first base during Spring Training. It was definitely on Sportscenter.

His athleticism will help the struggling team who is currently below .500 and below expectations. He has a career batting average of .263 and 96 stolen bases in the Majors which should add to the 3rd place team batting average. The Scorpions really need a veteran player to lead the team on the field with so many early season injuries.

Gathright should be a welcomed addition to the Scorpions when he could possibly wear the uniform on Friday, June 10. Game time will be 7:35pm against Garry Templeton's Maui Na Koa Ikaika at Desert Sun Stadium.
