San Angelo Colts News Release
Harlingen, Texas---After both teams split the first two games, San Angelo looked to gain ground on the front running WhiteWings in a scheduled double-header on Thursday. The WildWings would win game one 6-3 and also win the night cap 2-1, sweeping both games and taking three of four in the series.
The Colts lost game one by a final of 6-3, when the WhiteWings struck first. They went up 1-0 when Wesley Dimitt drew a bases loaded walk in the first. Rio struck for two getting two in the second on Carl Johnson (1) first homerun of the year, one of two he would hit on the night, and it was 3-0 WhiteWings. The Colts got on the board when Clay Calfee doubled and scored on two wild pitches to make it 3-1. San Angelo tied the game the following inning on a Ronnie Gaines (5) homerun in the second and it was all tied at 3-3. It was Carl Johnson (2) who hit his second homerun of the game to make it 4-3. Sloppy play in the sixth on an error and a wild pitch lead to two runs making it 6-3, which was the final in game one of the double-header.
In game two the WhiteWings struck first again getting two in the second on a sac fly by Jon Fernandez and an RBI single by Brandon Decker to lead 2-0. The Colts got on the board in the top of the third to cut it to 2-1, but that would turn out to be the final, as the score held up and the WhiteWings sweep the double-dip. The Colts received a brilliant performance by Colts starter Brian Henschel in this one, as he goes the distance getting the first complete game of the year for San Angelo.
On Friday the Colts and WhiteWings continue their home and home series with the first of four at Foster Field, as Rio plays San Angelo for the first time this season. In game one of the four game home series it will be the Colts southpaw Logan Williamson (2-0, 4.50) against righty Andrew Wells (2-0, 1.47) on Youth Baseball Glove Giveaway Night sponsored by Concho Valley Partnership.
