
Colts bats wake up for weekend homecoming

San Angelo, Texas---After being held in check during a four game series in Harlingen during the week, the Colts bats woke up for a weekend getaway to Foster Field and beat the Rio Grande Valley White Wings 12-3 Friday night.
San Angelo got off to a quick start, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning, highlighted by the first of two home runs by Ronnie Gaines (7). Rio Grande Valley got one run back in the top of the second before the Colts broke it open in the fourth. Daryl Jones (7) and Cory Patton (1) each hit two run homers to give the Colts an 8-2 lead after four.
Gaines, Clay Calfee, Davis Page and Trey Carter each had three hits for the Colts, as Carter emerged from a slump in which he was three for his last 29 at-bats.
Logan Williamson (3-0, 3.96) started and had another good outing for the Colts, giving up just two earned runs on four hits in seven innings to go with eight strikeouts. On the other hand, White Wings starter Andrew Wells (2-1, 3.27) took the loss after allowing eight runs, five earned, on 12 hits in three and two-thirds innings.
Saturday night the Colts will send right-hander Chandler Barnard (2-1, 3.79) to the mound against White Wings lefty Chase Davenport (1-2, 5.40). After the game will be the Jerseys Off Our Backs auction, for which the money raised will go to the Children's Miracle Network.
