Jesse Root Signs ATO with Sound Tigers

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (March 18, 2014) - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers announced today that forward Jesse Root has been signed to an amateur tryout contract. Additionally, forward Matthew Pistilli has been released from his professional tryout contract (PTO).

Root, 24, just completed a four-year career at Yale University (ECAC). He finished his collegiate career with 92 points (35 goals, 57 assists) in 122 games. Root had a very strong senior year in which he had 37 points (14 goals, 23 assists) and led the Bulldogs in scoring. The Pittsburgh, Pa., native will join the Sound Tigers for their game Wednesday against the Hartford Wolf Pack.

Pistilli, 25, signed a PTO with the Sound Tigers on Feb. 8. He skated in 13 games for the Sound Tigers and collected four points (one goal, three assists). On a previous PTO this season, the Montreal native appeared in 14 games with the Charlotte Checkers and scored eight points (four goals, four assists). He will return to the Florida Everblades (ECHL), where he picked up 36 points (16 goals, 20 assists) in 28 games.
