Jerry Sands Called up to Dodgers

April 18, 2011 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

The hottest hitter in the Pacific Coast League will be taking his bat to Los Angeles as Jerry Sands has been called up to the Dodgers and will make his Major League debut tonight against the Atlanta Braves at Dodger Stadium.

If his big league debut is anything like his Triple-A debut, Sands can expect a long stay in Los Angeles. In ten games for the Isotopes, his first exposure to the Triple-A level, Sands batted .400 (16x40) with 12 runs, two doubles, a triple, five homers, and a PCL-leading 17 RBI.

The North Carolina native will make his Major League debut tonight, starting in left field and batting seventh against Tim Hudson and the Braves.

Infielder Corey Smith has been added to the Isotopes roster from Double-A Chattanooga, where he was batting .313 (10x32) with three doubles and four RBI in 10 games for the Lookouts.

The ‚¬ËœTopes will wrap up a short, three-game series in Oklahoma City tonight before heading to Des Moines, Iowa to renew acquaintances with the Iowa Cubs for four games.

Albuquerque returns home this Saturday for a four-game homestand against the New Orleans Zephyrs, Triple-A affiliate of the Florida Marlins, that includes the season's first post-game fireworks show and a pre-game Easter Sunday egg hunt. Tickets for any Isotopes game may be purchased at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or on-line at www.albuquerquebaseball.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
