Seddon Selected PCL Pitcher of the Week
April 18, 2011 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tacoma Rainiers News Release
Tacoma, WA - The Pacific Coast League announced on Monday that Tacoma Rainiers starting pitcher Chris Seddon has been selected as the PCL Pitcher of the Week for the period of April 7-17.
Seddon, 27, receives the honor after tossing 13.0 shutout innings over his first two starts to begin the season. He is currently the only pitcher in the PCL who has pitched at least eight innings this season without allowing a run to score and he has held opposing hitters to a league-low .140 batting average.
The left-hander limited the Sacramento River Cats to four hits with four strikeouts over six innings in his 2011 debut on April 9 and, most recently allowed only two hits and struck out five over a seven-inning start against the Fresno Grizzlies on April 14.
Originally selected by Tampa Bay in the fifth round of the 2001 draft, Seddon is in his third season with the Rainiers after re-signing as a free agent with the Mariners organization in the offseason. The 2010 PCL All-Star went 10-4 with a 3.39 ERA over 18 appearances with Tacoma last season prior to spending the remainder of the year in the major leagues with Seattle.
The award is the second Seddon has garnered over his 11-year professional career. He previously earned PCL Pitcher of the Week honors last season after going 2-0 and turning in 14.0 scoreless innings over one start and one relief appearance, June 14-20, 2010.
The Rainiers continue the club's current eight-game homestand tonight against the Sacramento River Cats, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Tacoma follows that up with a four-game series against division-rival Colorado Springs Sky Sox beginning on Tuesday, April 19.
