New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

The Round Rock Express lost their starting pitcher after one batter on Monday night, but the bullpen was more than capable of stepping up to the challenge.

Express relievers combined to blank the New Orleans Zephyrs for eight innings, then held on to hand the Z's their third consecutive loss at Zephyr Field, 3-1.

Express starter Eric Hurley had to leave the game after taking a line drive to the head off the bat of Bryan Petersen. Hurley was later taken to a local hospital for further examination, but never lost consciousness.

Zephyrs starter Mark McLemore (0-2) took the loss after he gave up one-run in each of the first three innings. McLemore walked five batters while allowing seven hits in four innings of work.

Former Zephyr Chris Mobley (1-0) relieved Hurley and received the win after going 2 2/3 innings.

After being shut out for the first eight innings, Vinny Rottino led off the ninth with a home run to straightaway center field, his first of the year.

Mike Cervanak and Petersen followed with singles, putting runners at the corners with two out before Ozzie Martinez grounded out to end the game.

Yoshinori Tateyama picked up his first save for the Express.

The Zephyrs return to action on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. as they host the Nashville Sounds for a four-game series. Dallas Trahern (0-0) makes his second start for the Zephyrs, going against Sounds right-hander Josh Butler (1-0).
