Orange County Flyers News Release

Acey exposed the Armada pitching staff as he blasted two three run homers in the Flyers mid-week double header sweep over the Long Beach Armada as the Flyers improved their league best record to 23-9 with a 9-3 victory Wednesday night at Goodwin Field in Fullerton.

Acey went three for three in both games, hitting a three run homer in each helping the Flyers to get out to a comfortable lead that they would not relinquish.

Charles Merricks pitched five innings to improve his perfect record to 4-0.

Steve Moss got things going for Long Beach in the first as he was able to leg out a triple when Mark Okano lost the fly ball in the lights before Ryan Lehr drove him in with a ground out.

But the Flyers got to Long Beach starter Ryan Claypool quickly, as Patrick Breen doubled in one run before Jeff LaRue doubled in Breen and Jermy Acey to put Orange County in front.

Jermy Acey picked up where he left off in game one, as he carefully placed a single down the right field line that kicked off of the firstbasemen Flowers' glove, scoring two runs in the second inning. The Flyers added another in the inning when, after LaRue struck out, Armada catcher David Ramirez attempted to back pick Breen but threw the ball into right field scoring David Bacani but Acey put the brakes on around third allowing Long Beach to catch Breen in a pickle and finally tag him out to end the inning.

The Flyers got on the Armada bullpen in the fourth as blasted his second three run homer of the day, another three run homer in the fifth to break the game open.

Dan Trumble got two for the Armada in the 5th, as he turned a ten pitch at bat into a two run double.

The Flyers were able to shut the door in the ninth as Dave Bacani backed De La Rosa's seventh with an excellent throw out that brought controversy as Dan Trumble, who was thrown out on the play, was ejected following the game for arguing.

The two teams will meet in the series finale Thursday at 7:05 at Goodwin Field in Fullerton.
