Jenkins Debuts For Fisher Cats, But Falls 2-0 to Richmond

(Manchester, NH)-Mike McDade and Ricardo Nanita had two hits each for the Fisher Cats on Saturday night, but Richmond plated the only two runs, taking a 2-0 win before 6,470 on Saturday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

Richmond (30-31) broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the top of the seventh inning. Jose Flores and Ryan Lormand drew walks and both scored on a double into the left field corner by Justin Christian (3-for-5, 2B, 2 RBI)

Those were the only two runs allowed in the Double-A debut by Chad Jenkins, Toronto's top draft pick in 2009 (Kennesaw State), who was making his first start for New Hampshire (37-24). Jenkins allowed six hits, walked three and struck out six.

Richmond pitchers Daryl Maday and Henry Sosa combined on the shutout. Maday worked the first five innings, allowing four hits. He walked one and struck out eight. Sosa (1-0) pitched four scoreless innings in relief, allowing three hits, to earn his first win of the season.

The series with Richmond concludes on Sunday afternoon at 1:35pm.
