New Britain Rock Cats News Release

NEW BRITAIN, CT - Jay Voss struck out eight and John Murrian homered to lead Erie to an 8-2 win over the Rock Cats on Saturday night.

Voss (2-2) limited the Rock Cats to two runs on five hits through seven innings of work. He was matched by Rock Cats starter Brett Jacobson in the early portion of the game.

Both teams were held scoreless until the fifth inning. Erie struck first in the top of the inning. Murrian singled with one out, Jamie Johnson drew a walk, and Brandon Douglas singled to load the bases. Justin Henry hit a grounder that was fielded by first baseman Chris Parmleee, who fired a strike home to retire Murrian at the plate. Francisco Martinez then lined a base hit into right field to plate two runs.

The Rock Cats answered back in the bottom of the inning. Jair Fernandez started things off with a leadoff double. Fernandez was forced to leave the game due to an injury suffered as he ran the bases. Daniel Rohlfing followed with a single that moved pinch runner Chris Herrmann to third. With no outs, Deibinson Romero lined a double into left field that scored Herrmann to put the ‘Cats on the board, 2-1. Mark Dolenc added a sacrifice fly that plated Rohlfing to tie the game.

In the sixth, the Seawolves regained the lead on Michael Bertram's RBI single that scored Audy Ciriaco, who had greeted reliever Deolis Guerra with a double to right to lead off the inning. Bertram was thrown out at second and argued the call. Both he and manager Chris Cron were ejected from the game.

The Seawolves put the game away in the seventh with five runs off of Guerra in the inning. Murrian led the seventh off with a homer over the left-center field wall. Guerra struggled with control throughout the inning, including firing two wild pitches - one that led to a run - hitting a batter, and walking one. Guerra also committed a fielding error that put runners on the corners with not outs after the home run. Martinez and Michael Rockett each had an RBI single in the inning.

Brandon Douglas led the Seawolves with a game-high three hits.

Jacobson finished with two runs on five hits and four walks in five innings. He struck out four. Guerra (4-6) suffered the loss after allowing six runs -four earned - on five hits through two innings.
