OTTAWA, Ontario, Canada - Memphis 901 FC battled to hard earned point Saturday in the Canadian capital of Ottawa.
Memphis and Ottawa Fury FC drew 0-0 in a defensive-heavy fixture.
Memphis (2-7-5, 14 pts) goalkeeper Jeff Caldwell was outstanding from start to finish making numerous acrobatic saves. His highlight of the night came in the 42nd minute when he made back-to-back saves on shots from Ottawa's Chris Mannella and Mour Samb.
Both squads entered halftime tied up at 0-0 but the tempo picked up not long after the second half whistle blew.
Ottawa (6-2-5, 23 pts) brought more players forward and increased the pace inside Memphis' side of the pitch. However, Memphis' backline refused to give an inch. Ottawa ended up taking 14 shots in the second half with none making it past Caldwell.
Memphis' best chance of the night came on an excellent run by forward Elliot Collier in the 78th minute. Collier took in a pass, headed the ball forward on a breakaway and forced Ottawa goalkeeper Callum Irving to make a last second save.
Saturday's draw helped Memphis remain in the fight for a Top 10 spot in the Eastern Conference standings. Before it resumes league play June 29, 901 FC will return home to face Liga MX powerhouse C.F. Pachuca at AutoZone Park on June 22.
