Prince George, B.C. - The Prince George Cougars Hockey Club is pleased to announce that 1997-born forward Jansen Harkins (North Vancouver, B.C.) will represent the Western Hockey League and Canada at the 2015 CHL Canada Russia Series which begins on November 9th in Kelowna, B.C. Harkins and Team WHL will play the Russians twice: Once on the 9th in Kelowna and again on November 10th in Kamloops, B.C.

"Our entire organization is proud of Jansen for all that he's accomplished to this point in his hockey career," said Prince George Cougars Head Coach, Mark Holick. "He's a player that we count on every night to be a difference maker for us, and we know that he'll be a great representative of our organization, our city and our country at this event."

Originally drafted by the Prince George Cougars second overall in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft, Harkins has already etched his name into the Prince George Cougars history books. Last season at age 17, Harkins became the second fastest Prince George Cougar ever to reach 100 career points in the WHL. He finished his sophomore season with 20 goals and 59 assists for (a team high) 79 points in 70 games. His 59 assists was a new single season franchise record for assists. He received the Dan Hamhuis Award which is given annually to the Prince George Cougars Most Valuable Player. In June 2015, Harkins was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the second round (47th overall) of the NHL Draft. So far this season, Harkins has a goal and four assists in seven games. For his career he has registered 31 goals and 87 assists for 118 points in 149 games.

Internationally Harkins is no stranger to donning the maple leaf. Most recently he suited up for Canada at the World Under-18 championships in Switzerland and captured a bronze medal. In August 2014, Harkins earned a gold medal with Canada at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Harkins also served as captain for Team Pacific during the 2013-14 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and helped lead his team to a silver medal. Over the past five seasons only three other Prince George Cougars: Troy Bourke (2013), Brett Connolly (2010) and Charles Inglis (2010) have represented the WHL in this event.

Harkins and his teammates return to action at home tomorrow night when the Cougars welcome the Calgary Hitmen for the first of back-to-back games.
