Jannis Fans Career-High 12, Spiedies Fall to Yard Goats

BINGHAMTON, NY - Mickey Jannis struck out a career-high 12 batters over seven innings, but the Binghamton Spiedies fell to the Hartford Yard Goats 2-1 Saturday night at NYSEG Stadium. The Rumble Ponies have now lost five straight games, tying a season-high.

Jannis (5-5) went seven innings and allowed one run on four hits. Over his last two outings, Jannis has struck out 22 batters in 13 innings of work.

The game was scoreless through six innings. Hartford (27-28, 64-58) broke the scoreless tie in the top of the seventh on a Brian Serven two-out RBI single over the head of a leaping Andres Gimenez to score Colten Welker.

The Yard Goats added a second run of the game in the top of the ninth. Brett Boswell drilled a single through the right side to plate Tyler Nevin and make it a 2-0 game.

Binghamton (25-34, 60-63) scored its lone run in the bottom of the ninth. Gavin Cecchini led the inning off with a single up the middle. He stole second and advanced to third on a Luis Carpio groundout. Mike Paez ended the Spiedies' 37.2-inning scoreless drought with an RBI single. Andres Gimenez kept the inning alive with a two-out single and stole second to put runners on second and third. Barrett Barnes struck out looking though to end the game.

RHP Heath Holder (8-4) earned the win as he tossed four shutout innings of relief and allowed just three hits. Scott Griggs picked up his 13th save of the season.

The Spiedies conclude their seven-game homestand against the Yard Goats Sunday at 2:05 PM on NewsRadio 1290 AM WNBF and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies channel on TuneIn. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pregame show starts at 1:50 PM.

POSTGAME NOTES: Gimenez and Quinn Brodey each tallied two hits... Binghamton left 11 runners on base and outhit Hartford 8-5.
