Reading Fightin Phils News Release
(READING, PA) - David Parkinson delivered six strong innings in the start, and the Fightin Phils evened up the series against the Thunder with a 7-1 victory over Trenton on Saturday night at FirstEnergy Stadium.
Parkinson (10-7) limited Trenton to just one run on three hits and a walk, picking up eight strikeouts across six innings in the win.
Reading (33-24) (72-52) remains atop the Eastern Division with just 16 games remaining in the regular season.
Trenton struck first in the third inning, when Brian Navarreto led off the frame with his first home run as a member of the Thunder (29-28) (67-56).
Albert Abreu held Reading off the board through the front three, but permitted an infield single to Mickey Moniak to open the fourth. Abreu, who is working his way back from a bicep injury, gave way to reliever Will Carter (1-2) after 52 pitches.
Carter walked Alec Bohm, then hit Darick Hall with a pitch to load the bases. Following a strikeout, Cornelius Randolph worked a walk to push home Moniak and tie the ballgame. Arquimedes Gamboa followed with a single through the right side, scoring Bohm to put Reading on top, 2-1.
Jose Gomez kept it going, blooping a single into left that scored Hall to make it 3-1.
Reading extended its advantage to four an inning later, facing reliever Trevor Lane. Bohm drew a one-out walk, and with two down, Josh Stephen unloaded his 10th home run of the season.
The Fightins made it 6-1 in the seventh after Moniak ripped his league-leading 12th triple of the season, and scored on Bohm's sacrifice fly. Gomez added his second RBI single of the night in the eighth inning, pushing a grounder past second to bring in Stephen.
Garrett Cleavinger twirled two perfect innings in relief, recording a pair of strikeouts. Addison Russ tossed a scoreless ninth to finish off the victory.
The series finale is set for Sunday at 2:15 p.m. with Adonis Medina on the bump against Shawn Semple. The game will be broadcast on 610 ESPN and the Fightins Radio Network beginning with the Fightins Pregame Show at 1:45 p.m.
