Jam Fall to Warriors 98-92

BAKERSFIELD - The Bakersfield Jam (14-24) fell to the Santa Cruz Warriors (23-17) Saturday night at the Kaiser Permanente Arena, 98-92.

Despite Bakersfield shooting just 35 percent from the floor in the first half, compared to 50 percent for Santa Cruz, the Jam kept the game close throughout the first 24 minutes of action as there were nine lead changes and the score was tied five times. Santa Cruz extended their two-point halftime lead (47-45) to as many as 12 in the third and went into the final frame with a 73-63 advantage.

The Warriors led the entire fourth quarter and although Bakersfield cut their double-digit deficit to just three points late in the game, Santa Cruz converted clutch free-throws down the stretch that ultimately sealed their victory.

Overall, the Jam held the edge in rebounds (52-50), points in the paint (40-36), second chance points (30-9) and steals (17-4), while the Warriors shot better from the field (50%-33.3%), had more fast break points (13-10) and blocks (8-1).

Ike Diogu led the Jam with 19 points, 16 rebounds, two assists and two steals in 26 minutes of play. He was in foul trouble for most of the game and fouled at the 5:00 minute mark of the fourth quarter. Dwight Buycks also had 19 points to go along with four steals. Renaldo Major filled up the stat sheet with 13 points, four rebounds, three assists and five steals. Markeith Cummings tallied 17 points (all in the fourth) in 11 minutes of action.

The Warriors were paced by Cameron Jones (26 points) and Seth Curry (17 points). Joe Alexander posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Bakersfield will next host the Austin Toros on Wednesday, March 12 at 7:00 p.m. PST.
