Erie, Pennsylvania, Sunday, March 9 - The Erie BayHawks hosted the Springfield Armor for a Sunday matinee at the Erie Insurance Arena today. After Erie controlled the pace for the first three quarters, Springfield battled back during the final frame to down the BayHawks 113-109.
Erie (13-27) jumped out to a quick 17-4 lead to start the game thanks to 11 points from Micah Downs. The BayHawks continued to shoot well for the duration of the quarter and held a 32-21 advantage after the frame. Erie stretched their lead to 17, their largest of the game, on a reverse dunk by Solomon Jones with 2:58 left in the half. Springfield (17-23) closed the half on a 10-0 run and trailed 51-44 at the intermission.
Downs led all scorers with 14 first half points. Devin Ebanks and Jeff Foote both scored nine points for the Armor in the first two quarters.
The Armor knocked Erie's lead down to just one with 4:45 left in the third on a Larry Anderson offensive putback. Ricky Davis nailed four three-pointers for the BayHawks in the final minutes of the quarter and Erie held an 83-79 lead with just 12 minutes remaining. With 6:16 left in the game, Anderson connected on the second of two free throws to give Springfield their first lead of the game. The Armor never looked back and led the rest of the way, downing Erie by a final score of 113-109.
Terence Jennings led all BayHawks scorers with 23 points and six rebounds. Davis finished with 22 points off the bench and Lewis Jackson recorded another double-double with 18 points and 15 assists. Jackson's 15 assists gives him an 11-game streak of at least 10 assists, trying Will Conroy's Development League record. Six Springfield players scored double-figures, led by Anderson's 24 points and nine rebounds. Khalif Wyatt poured in 19 points off the bench, Devin Ebanks recorded 18 points and 11 rebounds and Willie Reed scored 16 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for the Armor.
The BayHawks return to action Thursday against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants at the Erie Insurance Arena while Springfield will return to Erie for their next game on Friday.
