
Jagielo Drives in Four as Shrimp Rally Past Generals, 7-6

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp All-Star first baseman Eric Jagielo hit a first-inning, two-run home run and seventh-inning, go-ahead two-run double for a season-high four RBIs to help his team rally from a 6-3 deficit for a 7-6 win over the Jackson Generals before 5,721 saw Saturday Fireworks at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
After a ceremonial first pitch by Melody Van Zant, Jackson (38-30) took a 2-0, first-inning lead against Jacksonville right-hander Kolton Mahoney. First baseman Rudy Flores and catcher Marcus Littlewood each hit RBI singles. The Jumbo Shrimp (28-39) answered against Jackson right-hander Bo Takahashi with a three-run first inning. Center fielder Braxton Lee walked and scored when left fielder Peter O'Brien's two-out infield popup fell behind the pitcher's mound for an RBI single. Jagielo hit a two-run home run - his seventh of the season - to the right field bleachers for a 3-2 lead.
Jackson third baseman Josh Prince hit a game-tying home run to the left field berm leading off the fourth inning. In a 3-3, fifth-inning tie, Prince hit a two-run triple to center field and scored on second baseman Isan Diaz's throwing error, giving Jackson a 6-3 lead. In five innings, Mahoney allowed six earned runs on 10 hits and two walks with six strikeouts.
In the fifth inning, Takahashi walked All-Star right fielder Monte Harrison walked, Diaz singled, and O'Brien hit a sacrifice fly. In the sixth, right-hander Bud Jeter walked third baseman Brian Schales, and pinch hitter John Norwood had an RBI groundout. In the seventh, right-hander Mason McCullough (0-1) hit Harrison - who stole second base - and walked Diaz. Harrison and Diaz had their second double steal of the game before Jagielo's two-run double down the first-base line.
Miami Marlins right-hander Nick Wittgren pitched a scoreless sixth inning, allowing one hit with one strikeout in his second appearance of a major league rehab assignment with Jacksonville. Left-hander Miguel Del Pozo (2-0) and right-handers Zech Lemond and Kyle Keller each pitched a scoreless inning, with Keller earning his first save.
UP NEXT: The Jumbo Shrimp conclude the first half of the season and their series with Jackson at 3:05 p.m. Sunday, when Jacksonville right-hander Robert Dugger (1-1) is scheduled to face Generals right-hander Ryan Atkinson (2-6). Gates open at 2 p.m., when families can play catch on the field, followed by player autographs as part of Baptist Health Sunday Family FUNday. Kids activities will be in the Wolfson Children's Hospital Kids Zone, and following the game, kids 12 and under can run the bases. It is Great Clips Day and Everybody Gets Lucky Day, when the Jumbo Shrimp will hand out 4,000 fortune cookies to attempt to break the world record for most fortune cookies eaten simultaneously. Plus, 50 of the fortune cookies will contain special prizes for lucky fans. The game is presented by Easy 102.9.
