Mobile BayBears News Release
MOBILE, Ala. - The Southern League announced Saturday that right-handed pitcher Matt Custred from the Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, has been added to the South Division All-Star team.
Custred, 24, has a 2-3 record with a 2.57 ERA in 16 relief appearances and one start with Mobile. He is a perfect 4-for-4 in save situations and has held opposing hitters to a paltry .160 batting average. Custred joined the BayBears on April 19, after making four appearances with Class A Advanced Inland Empire to begin the season.
This is Custred's first year in the Angels organization. He was signed as a minor-league free agent on January 13, following three seasons in the Braves farm system. Custred was originally selected by Atlanta in the 31st round of the 2015 MLB Draft out of Texas Tech University. This is the first time he has been selected to an All-Star team in his career.
The 2018 All-Star Game at Regions Field in Birmingham, Ala., will take place Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. CDT. The Pensacola Blue Wahoos coaching staff will coach the South Division All-Stars, while the host Barons will employ their staff to coach the North Division squad.
The BayBears continue a five-game road series against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos Saturday at 6:05 p.m. CDT. Live coverage can be seen on MiLB.tv (Pensacola feed, subscription required, promo code: BAYBEARS) and heard on the BayBears Broadcast Network, the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App, with the Countdown to First Pitch starting at 5:45 p.m.
The BayBears return home Thursday and host a total of 70 home dates through Labor Day, September 3. Single-game tickets and ticket packages are currently on sale. Group and hospitality offerings for the 2018 season can be reserved by calling (251) 479-BEAR (2327).
