Peoria Rivermen News Release
Jaden Schwartz scored two third-period goals to lead the Peoria Rivermen to 4-2 win over the Chicago Wolves in preseason action on Friday night at the Hoffman Estates Park District Ice Arena. The Rivermen are 2-0-0 in the preseason and will wrap up their exhibition schedule on Saturday in Peoria against the Rockford IceHogs.
Schwartz, the 14th overall selection in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, broke a 2-2 tie at 12:24 of the third after creating a turnover in the offensive zone with the teams playing four-on-four. He added a second unassisted goal, this one on the power play, with just 1:28 remaining in the game. He stole the puck from Darren Haydar just inside the blue line and then beat Matt Climie between the legs as he was being hauled to the ice.
Chicago and Peoria traded goals in both the first and second periods. Chicago jumped out to a 1-0 lead on their first power play of the game. With Brett Ponich boxed for high-sticking, Bill Sweatt snapped one past the glove of Mike McKenna at 6:14 of the first period. Phil McRae tied the game 15:05 on a two-on-one opportunity with Cody Beach. After Beach pass to the font of the net, McRae dragged the puck to the backhand and lifted it past Climie.
Sweatt's second of the night gave the Wolves back the lead at 12:08 of the second. His shot from the right circle deflected off a shin pad on its way past McKenna. Anthony Peluso redirected a Brett Ponich shot past Climie at 18:33 of the second to re-tie the game.
McKenna played the entire game and stopped 32 of 34 to pick up the victory while Climie was peppered with 39 shots. Peoria's power play was 1-for 4 while their penalty kill was 2-for-3.
All tickets are available for Saturday's preseason finale for $10 each. The game is set to begin at 7:05 p.m.
