Springfield Falcons News Release

Springfield, Mass. - Jonathan Audy-Marchessault registered a hat trick and added an assist on Friday night at the MassMutual Center, leading the Springfield Falcons past the Worcester Sharks for a 4-3 preseason victory.

The Falcons had to work their way back from a pair of deficits in the contest before seizing control of the game. Freddie Hamilton took advantage of a deflection just 3:23 into the first period, snapping a puck past the stick of Springfield netminder Paul Dainton to give Worcester a 1-0 lead.

Audy-Marchessault, who as a rookie with Connecticut in 2011-2012 scored 19 points in 13 games against Springfield, netted his first goal of the preseason by flipping in a rebound off a Ryan Craig shot 8:00 into the opening period to tie the contest, 1-1.

Moments later, Brodie Reid drove a puck over Dainton's glove, reclaiming Worcester's one-goal advantage, 2-1, at 10:01.

Ryan Johansen responded for the Falcons, taking a puck on a feed from Audy-Marchessault and snapping it from the right circle just inside the short-side post at 11:09, knotting the contest back up, 2-2.

Audy-Marchessault wasted no time in the second period garnering the first lead of the preseason for Springfield, as he pushed in a puck from the slot off of a turnover to give the Falcons a 3-2 edge at 1:09. The second-year pro then fired home a rebound from a John Moore shot at 4:13 with the Falcons on the man advantage, extending the lead to 4-2.

Matt Irwin blasted a puck in with Worcester on the power play at 10:28 of the third period, cutting Springfield's lead to 4-3.

The Sharks would get no closer, however, as Dainton stood tall in net and Springfield held on for the victory.

Dainton made 23 saves on 26 shots in his first action of the preseason for the win. Harri Sateri played the first two periods for Worcester and took the loss, stopping 13 of 17 bids. Thomas Heemskerk was perfect on four chances in the third.

The Falcons will close out the preseason on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. against the Bruins at the MassMutual Center.
