Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Dubuque Fighting Saints forward Jacob Hamacher announced his commitment to play college hockey at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) on Friday morning. The first-year forward has quickly become a focal point for one of the most offensively prolific lines on the Fighting Saints this season. He is the first player in new Saints history to commit to RIT.
Hamacher, a native of Corona, Calif., has committed to play for the Tigers, who compete in the Atlantic Hockey Conference alongside teams such as Air Force, Canisius, Mercyhurst, Robert Morris and Sacred Heart. Hamacher, a playmaking forward, has racked up assists at a swift rate. His 33 assists were the most in the NAPHL in 2012-13, and since that season, he has doled out 102 helpers in 145 games.
"It's really exciting for me and my family, and it's a huge relief now that I know that I have that figured out. I can focus on playing hockey in Dubuque," Hamacher said. "When I went on my visit, I fell in love with the rink, the way they play hockey, their fans, and their facilities."
"The team is really good. They were one of the best teams in their league last year, and that was one of the main factors in my decision."
Since joining the Dubuque Fighting Saints, Hamacher has dished two assists in the regular season, both primary, and put up three points in six games during the preseason slate.
"I think it's a real good pickup by RIT and it shows their eye for talent and their eye for what Jake is going to be as he continues to improve," head coach and GM of the Saints, Jason Lammers, said. "He's a really good player for us, and a really important player for us. He's someone that will keep growing and keep getting better and better."
Hamacher and the Fighting Saints will take on the Sioux Falls Stampede tonight at 7:05 p.m. Join all of the action on the radio home of the Saints, Dubuque's Super Hits 106.1 FM, or on the USHL's streaming video provider, HockeyTV.
