Madison Capitols News Release
MADISON, WI - The Madison Capitols fell to the Green Bay Gamblers, 4-1, in front of 2,127 fans at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Friday night.
Madison (2-3-0) is tied for sixth place in the Eastern Conference with four points. Green Bay (4-2-0) sits in third place in the Eastern Conference with eight points.
Adding the second tally for the Gamblers at 14:25 in the first stanza, forward Dante Palecco shot past the right shoulder of goaltender Daniel Lebedeff. Forward Matt Jennings fired a shot that bounced off the left pad of Lebedeff which was picked up by forward Brock Caufield and quickly passed to Palecco for the eventual game-winning-tally.
Forward Josh Kosack gave the Gamblers the 1-0 lead at 3:18 of the first period with an unassisted goal. Kosack skated the puck from the Green Bay blue line around two Madison defensemen and whipped a shot past Lebedeff glove-side.
Palecco scored a power play goal at 17:45 of the first frame putting the Gamblers up 3-0. Defenseman Connor Mackey dropped a feed to Palecco at the left goal post, and the forward fired the puck, five-hole on Lebedeff.
Capitols forward Eugene Fadyeyev opened up the scoring at the two-minute mark of the second period. On the power play, Fadyeyev picked up a rebounded puck off of a Green Bay player's stick and tossed it into the net leaving the Capitols down by three.
Forward John Leonard, on a feed from forward Nolan Moyle, tossed the puck into an empty net at 19:36 of the third period for the final goal of the game.
Lebedeff (1-3-0-0) took his third loss of the season, stopping a total of 25-of-29 shots. Zhukov (2-1-0-0) earned his second win of the season making 32 saves on 33 shots.
Madison went 1-for-5 on the power play. Green Bay went 1-for-3 on the power play.
Notables - The Capitols trail the Gamblers, 2-0, thus far in the Wisconsin Cheese Cup rivalry this season...Madison is now 1-2-0 in their Home Opener in franchise history...Forward Eugene Fadyeyev is on a two-game goal-scoring streak.
