(Binghamton, NY) - Binghamton's Nic Jackson snapped a 3-3 tie with a three-run homer off Kyle Jackson (2-1) in the eighth inning, leading the Mets to a 6-3 victory over the Portland Sea Dogs in the series opener on Friday night at NYSEG Stadium. Portland suffers their second straight loss and falls to 10-10 on the season. Binghamton is 3-1 in their last four home games and improves to 7-15 overall.
Robert Paulk (1-0) worked three scoreless innings in relief of starter Salvador Aguilar to pick up the win. Carlos Muniz pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to record his fourth save of the season and his second against the Sea Dogs.
Charlie Zink hurled six strong innings for Portland, yielding six hits, three runs (two earned), three walks and two strikeouts. Zink, who leads the team in ERA at 1.50, earned his fourth straight quality start.
The Sea Dogs rallied back from a 2-0 deficit by scoring three times off Aguilar in the sixth inning. Bryan Pritz and Jeff Natale knocked in the first two runs and Jed Lowrie tied the game when he was hit-by-a-pitch with the bases loaded. The next ½ inning, the B-Mets tied the game on throwing error by Andrew Pinckney.
Fernando Martinez went 2-for-4 for the B-Mets and knocked in the game's first two runs with a double off Zink in the fifth inning.
Notes...Portland lost their third straight road game and dropped to 5-6 on the road...Cory Keylor extended his hitting streak to six games...Hitters 5-9 went 1-for-17(Borowiak had the lone hit).
