
Jacoby Ellsbury Promoted to Triple-A Pawtucket

Portland, Maine- The Boston Red Sox have promoted Sea Dogs' outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury to Triple-A Pawtucket. Outfielder Jay Johnson joins the Sea Dogs from Single-A Lancaster.
Ellsbury appeared in 17 games with the Sea Dogs in 2007 hitting a Minor League Baseball best .452. He leads the Eastern League in hits (33), doubles (10), on base percentage (.518) and slugging percentage (.644). Ellsbury has hit safely in 15 consecutive games, the longest hitting streak for a Sea Dog since Brett Roneberg hit safely in 18 straight games in 2004. Ellsbury has reached base safely in 25 consecutive games dating back to August 27th, 2006 and 61 of the 66 games that he has played with the Sea Dogs.
Ellsbury began the 2006 season at Single-A Wilmington where he was a Carolina League All-Star hitting .299 with 25 stolen bases. He earned a promotion to Portland on July 13th where he helped lead the Sea Dogs to an Eastern League Championship, hitting .308 in 50 regular season games.
The 23 year-old is ranked the #2 prospect in the Red Sox organization by Baseball America. Ellsbury was drafted by the Red Sox in the first round (23rd overall) in the June 2005 draft.
The first 1,000 fans to enter the ballpark on June 28th will receive a Jacoby Ellsbury bobblehead doll courtesy of Irving Oil.
Johnson has appeared in 25 games with the JetHawks this season, hitting .282 with a home run and 17 RBI's. Last season he spent time at Single-A Greenville, Single-A Wilmington, and Double-A Portland and led all Red Sox minor leaguers in runs scored (86) and total bases (230) while ranking second in home runs (18). Johnson collected the game winning hit in extra innings for the Sea Dogs in his Double-A debut on April 29, 2006. In eight games with the Sea Dogs in 2006, Johnson hit .333 with two home runs, and nine RBI's reaching base safely in all eight games.
The 24 year-old Johnson was drafted by the Red Sox in the 13th round of the June 2005 draft. He will wear uniform # 14.
