Jacks Spoil the Party, 7-2

(Prescott Valley, AZ) - For the Odessa Jackalopes the puck finally dropped on the 2008-2009 Central Hockey League season tonight as the team squared off against the Arizona Sundogs at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley, AZ. Arizona held a pre-game ceremony celebrating their 2007-2008 CHL Championship.

It was an explosive first period for Odessa as the Jacks scored three goals. Jeff Pierce scored the first goal of the season on a shot from the point to give the Jacks a 1-0 lead at 5:25. Mario Joly has the assist. New center, Kory Karlander, would score his first goal in a Jacks uniform on the power play at 14:00 on an assist from Sebastien Thinel. Then rookie, Jean Bourbeau would make it a three goal lead for Odessa at 14:59 with another power play goal for the Jacks. Jeff Pierce and Mario Joly had the assists. At the end of the first period it was 3-0 Jackalopes.

The offense continued in the second period as Odessa scored three more goals. Sebastien Thinel scored his first goal of the season just :26 into the period. Dominic Leveille and Kory Karlander had the assists giving Odessa a 4-1 lead. 1:30 later Jean Bourbeau scored his second goal of the game when a dump from the corner deflected of Arizona goaltender, Joel Gistedt into the net, giving Odessa four power play goals in the game and a 5-1 lead. Collin Circelli had the assist. Marc Johnson then added to the fun with an unassisted, shorthanded goal to give the Jacks a 6-1 lead at 11:24. Arizona finally got on the board when Chris Bartolone scored a power play goal. At the end of two periods it was 6-1 Jacks.

Mario Joly scored the seventh goal of the contest for Odessa at 3:40 on assists from Circelli and Bourbeau in the third period, Joel Irving squeaked one past Jacks goalie, Juha Toivonen at 13:24 to make it a 7-2 score in favor of the Jacks. That would be the final score.

The Jacks and Sundogs will get back at it tomorrow night at Tim's Toyota Center. The game will start at 9:05 PM CST and can be heard locally on FM 97 Gold as well as online at jackalopes.org through CHL-TV.

The Odessa Jackalopes are the Central Hockey League affiliate for the NHL's New York Islanders and the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The team will begin its 12th season on October 17th against the defending champion Arizona Sundogs.
