Odessa Jackalopes News Release
(Prescott Valley, AZ) - After last night's victory over the Arizona Sundogs, the Odessa Jackalopes returned to Tim's Toyota Center on Saturday night looking to repeat the same success and sweep the two game set in Arizona. It was a much tighter contest but the Jacks held off a third period rush from Arizona to win 3-1.
It was a scoreless first period as both teams had opportunities. At the first intermission Odessa was leading 13-6 in shots on goal.
In the second period a number of penalties were called against both teams, 15 total. The Jacks were able to take advantage on the power play as Collin Circelli gave Odessa a 1-0 lead at 5:04 with assists from Russ Moyer and Jeff Pierce. It was Circelli's first goal of the season. At the end of two periods, the Jacks led Arizona 1-0.
In the third Arizona tied it up with a power play goal by Joel Irving at 1:25. Chris Bartolone had the assists. Less than two minutes later, Collin Circelli put Odessa back up with his second goal of the game on assists from Jean Bourbeau and Mike Lesperance. Then Sebastien Thinel scored his second goal of the season on the power play with Dominic Leveille adding the helper. The final score was 3-1, Jacks.
The Jackalopes return home tomorrow and will practice during the week before traveling to New Mexico for a Friday road game against the New Mexico Scorpions and a Saturday game at the Texas Brahmas. Both games can be heard on FM 97 Gold. Friday's broadcast will be delayed for high school football, check jackalopes.org for updates.
The Odessa Jackalopes are the Central Hockey League affiliate for the NHL's New York Islanders and the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The team will begin its 12th season on October 17th against the defending champion Arizona Sundogs.
