October 18, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[AMARILLO, Tex.]-Scorpions goaltender Jason Wolfe stopped 25 shots in a 6-0 shutout victory over the Gorillas. The win gave New Mexico a 2-0-0 start for the first time since the 2002-03 season.
New Mexico got on the board first as Mitch Stephens scored his third goal in two games 10:16 into the contest. Chris Robertson extended the lead when his slap shot, on the power play, went threw the legs of Amarillo goaltender Simon Nielsen.
The Scorpions broke the game open in the second period with four goals. Torrren Delforte fought hard for the puck around the net and stuffed it home at the 9:07 mark.
At the 13:37 mark, Stephens found Craig Macdonald alone in the slot. Macdonald took the perfect pass and scored his second goal of the season. Delforte added his second goal of the night on a shorthanded, breakaway goal. Rookie Matt Cosmos extended the Scorps lead to six with his first professional goal, as he slid the puck through Nielsen's legs.
Wolfe's shutout was the sixth of his career and the first by a Scorpion netminder in his team debut. Saturday night was the first road shutout for the Scorps since February 13, 2005 when Miguel Beaudry beat Austin 6-0.
ROSTER ADDITION
Prior to Saturday's game head coach Randy Murphy added forward Mike MacDonald to the roster. MacDonald spent last season with Odessa scoring 23 points (10G, 13A) in 63 games. He played collegiately at SUNY-Geneseo with Scorps' forward Mitch Stephens.
