October 18, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Laredo, Texas - The Rocky Mountain Rage opened the 2008-09 regular season with a 7-1 loss to the Laredo Bucks at the Laredo Entertainment Center.

The game was close through the first 20 minutes when Laredo's Alex Goupil and Darryl Smith sandwiched tallies around the Rage's first goal of the season off the stick of David Morelli to give the Bucks a 2-1 lead after one.

The Bucks took control of the game during the first 6 ½ minutes of the second period. Jason Dixon scored off a blast just 50 seconds into the frame before Laredo struck for three power play goals in a span of 2:03 to open up a 6-1 edge at 6:32. Bobby Russell added a short-handed goal at 18:33 to cap a five-goal period.

Several Bucks had big nights, including Smith, who registered a hat trick, and Dixon, who had two goals and one assist. Last season's CHL MVP Jeff Bes chipped in with four helpers.

The Rage conclude a two-game, season-opening road trip tomorrow night against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees before returning to Broomfield Event Center for their home opener on Wednesday, Oct. 22, against the Colorado Eagles at 7:05 p.m.
