Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

LAREDO, TX - For the second consecutive night, the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs relied on their special teams to help them earn a win, this time by a final score of 2-1 over the rival Laredo Bucks on Saturday night. Two powerplay goals in the second period of play helped Bossier-Shreveport move to 2-0 on the season, the night after they scored four powerplay goals in a win over Texas.

Ryan Mior's strong play in net earned him a victory in his professional debut. Mior stopped 27 of 28 shots to hold in check a Laredo team that scored seven goals the previous night against Rocky Mountain.

The Bucks started out the game with the better chances and were the first to capitalize when Adam Rivet scored on Mior short-side off of a feed from Matt Summers. The Bugs had a 12-7 shot advantage after one, but Laredo led 1-0.

The tide turned in the second period when Bossier-Shreveport's hard work led to numerous powerplay opportunities. A nice passing play on a 5-on-3 advantage tied the game up when Joe Blaznek and Kevin Cooper set up a tap-in goal by Travis Clayton, his first as a Mudbug. On another powerplay less than two minutes later, Chris Brassard tipped in Todd Paul's point shot to put the Bugs on top 2-1 after two periods.

The teams traded powerplays and scoring chances in the third period, but Mior stopped 13 Laredo shots in the final 20 minutes to preserve the win.

Sebastien Centomo played a strong game for Laredo as well, stopping 31 of 33 Mudbugs shots, but suffering his first loss as a Buck.

Bossier-Shreveport finished the night 2 for 10 on the powerplay and shut down the high-powered Bucks on their five man-advantages.

Now starting the season at 2-0, the Mudbugs will travel to Mississippi for their first divisional game of the season. Tuesday night at 7:05 pm, the Bugs will be at the DeSoto Civic Center for their first of 12 regular season meetings with the RiverKings. That broadcast can be heard live on AM 1130 KWKH or seen online through the CHL Network.
