Elmira Jackals News Release

The Elmira Jackals return to the ice tomorrow for the first time since Dec. 18 as they take on the Trenton Devils to begin a three-game road trip. The Jackals blanked the Toledo Walleye, 5-0, in their last game before the winter break behind 30 saves from Mike Brodeur.

Elmira will ring in 2011 in Kalamazoo with games on Friday, Dec. 31 and Saturday, Jan. 1 against the K-Wings.

SWEETLAND RETURNS TO HAT-TRICK HAVEN

As the Jackals get set to play their third game of the season in Trenton, Andrew Sweetland is preparing to return to the location of his two best performances this season. Sweetland has two hat tricks in two games in 2010-2011 at Trenton's Sun National Bank Center, the only two three-goal games of his professional career.

On Nov. 20, Sweetland set a current ECHL 2010-2011 season high with five points (3g-2a) in a 7-2 victory for Elmira over Trenton. Just over two weeks later on Dec. 8, Sweetland propelled the Jackals past the Devils with a natural hat trick, bringing his team from facing a 2-1 deficit in the second period to carrying a 4-2 advantage in the third on the way to a 5-2 win.

Sweetland is one of four players tied for second in the league with 15 goals.

TIFU PROVES TO BE TROUBLE FOR TRENTON

Although Sweetland has two hat tricks against the Devils, Yannick Tifu has proven to be the biggest cause for concern for Trenton this season, as the sixth-year pro leads the Jackals against the Devils with 11 points (5g-6a). The native of Brossard, Quebec has points in each of the Jackals last five games against the Devils, dating back to Nov. 20.
