
Florida's Beca Named Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week

ESTERO, FL ¬" The Florida Everblades proudly announced today that the ECHL has named Everblades forward Matt Beca the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for the week of December 20- 26.
Beca finished the week with five points (2g- 3a) and was a plus-4 rating in two games as the Everblades improved their second place record in the South Division to 19-12-1 for 39 points.
The 24-year-old opened the week with two goals, including a short-handed marker and the game-winning tally, and an assist in the Everblades ¬â¢ 4-2 win on Tuesday against Gwinnett. Beca then collected a pair of assists in Florida ¬â¢s 6-2 victory against the Gladiators on Wednesday. Overall he has 13 points (5g- 8a) in 26 games this season.
The native of Mississauga, Ontario is under contract with Charlotte of the AHL and made his pro debut at the end of last season playing for the Springfield Falcons of the AHL where he scored one goal in five games. Beca attended Clarkson University where he played four seasons registering 123 points (51g- 72a) in 149 games.
Beca becomes the second Everblades player to win the weekly award, joining Francis Lemieux who was the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week from November 29 - December 5.

The Everblades return to action on Tuesday, December 28 when they travel to Reading to take on the Royals at 7:05 p.m. from the Sovereign Center.
