Jackals Stage Comeback, But Fall
February 25, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Elmira Jackals News Release
Trenton, N.J. - The Elmira Jackals (32-20-2-2) staged their fourth two-goal comeback of the week on Saturday night at the Sun National Bank Center, rallying to take a third-period lead before giving way to the Trenton Titans (19-28-3-5), who scored twice late to earn a 4-3 victory.
Randy Rowe followed up a rebound off a Tyler Hostetter shot from the blue line by pushing home a puck on the doorstep at 16:23, giving Trenton a 1-0 lead after one period.
Ryan Hayes extended the lead to 2-0 at 14:51 of the second period, knocking in a puck off a scramble in front past Pielmeier.
Dustin Gazley took a puck at center that deflected off the glove of Corey Cowick and entered the zone on a two-on-one rush late in the second period. Gazley held on the left goal line and lifted a puck over the glove of Adam Dekker, bringing Elmira to within a goal, 2-1, at 18:19.
John Kurtz tipped a puck on a shot by Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel, redirecting it in at 1:52 of the third period to tie the game, 2-2.
Gazley fired in a puck on the power play from the left circle at 13:31, putting Elmira in front, 3-2, for the first time in the contest.
It appeared at that point that the Jackals were on their way to their fourth comeback win of the week. The Titans had other ideas, however, as they stormed back with two late strikes. Randy Rowe backhanded a puck past Pielmeier just 15 seconds after Gazley's go-ahead goal, knotting the contest right back up, 3-3. Ray DiLauro drove a puck from the blue line off of Pielmeier and in at 16:04, reclaiming the lead for the Titans, 4-3.
Dekker (1-0-0-0) and the Titans held off the Jackals the rest of the way, with the fourth-year netminder earning a win in his ECHL debut with 29 saves. Pielmeier (12-9-1-2) turned back 30 shots in the loss.
The Jackals take on the Titans tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. at the Sun Center. Elmira returns home to host Wheeling this Wednesday at First Arena, with the opening face-off at 7:05 p.m. To reserve your seats call (607) 734-PUCK (7825), visit the First Arena Box Office, or log onto JackalsHockey.com.
