Elmira Jackals News Release
KALAMAZOO, MI - December 31, 2015 - The Elmira Jackals fell tonight 5-3 to the Kalamazoo Wings in the final game of 2015. Mike Seidel scored his team-leading 11th goal of the season and added an assist while Taylor Stefishen and Allan McPherson also recorded goals.
The Wings quickly gained the lead 3:11 into the first period as Ludwig Blomstrand sniped his sixth goal of the season on the short-side over Niklas Lundstrom's blocker. Anton Cederholm and Curtis Valk added the assists. The Jackals promptly answered 1:44 later when Taylor Stefishen picked off a pass deep in the Wings' end and fired a shot past Joel Martin for his third goal of the season. Kalamazoo regained the lead at 7:13 of the opening stanza as Justin Taylor jabbed at a puck under Lundstrom, pushing it over the goal-line for his ninth goal of the season. Lane Scheidl and Adam Phillips earned the helpers. Later in the first period, the Wings added to their lead as Dane Fox sniped his team-leading 10th goal of the season from the face-off dot over Lundstrom's glove. Following Fox's tally Lundstrom was pulled and replaced by C.J. Motte. The Jackals responded and were able to battle back and cut the deficit back down to one goal with Allan McPherson's ninth goal of the season coming with only 1:18 remaining in the period. Spiro Goulakos and Mike Seidel added the assists on McPherson's marker.
The momentum began to sway in the Jackals direction after McPherson's late goal in the first period and continued to swing Elmira's way at the start of the second frame. Just 1:36 into the period Mike Seidel raced towards the net-front and slammed home a loose rebound created by a shot from just inside the blueline. Jacob MacDonald and Kevin Clare were credited with the assists on Seidel's 11th goal of the season. The momentum steadied during the second period and took a turn in Kalamazoo's direction in the late stages of the frame as Blomstrand ripped his second goal of the night past C.J. Motte on the power-play to regain the lead for the Wings.
The Jackals created scoring chances and clawed throughout the third period, but could not put the tying tally past Martin. Curtis Valk added his first goal of the season at 10:28 to cushion Kalamazoo's lead.
C.J. Motte turned aside 25 of 27 shots faced in relief duty but was saddled with the loss. Niklas Lundstrom turned aside seven of 10 shots faced in 14:38 of work. Joel Martin stopped 32 of 35 shots faced to earn the win.
