Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
Cincinnati, OH - The Cincinnati Cyclones (14-10-2-2) earned a 4-0 win over the Toledo Walleye on Thursday night. Forwards Nick Huard, Jack Downing, Zach Budish, and Christiaan Minella scored the goals for the Cyclones, while goaltender Brad Thiessen collected Cincinnati's first shutout of the season.
After a scoreless opening period, both teams came out firing in the second period, trading numerous quality scoring chances. Thiessen came up with big save, after big save to preserve the scoreless tie into the latter stages of the frame.
With under two minutes remaining in the second, the Cyclones got on the board while on a 5-on-3 power play, when a slapshot from Downing was saved by Walleye netminder Jake Patterson, but Huard was right in front to bury the rebound, and the Cyclones took a 1-0 lead after two periods.
The Cyclones tacked on another early in the third, when a shot from forward Andrew Yogan was kicked out by Patterson, who also made a spectacular save on Cyclones forward Joe Wilson on the second opportunity, however Downing was the third man following up the play, and he buried the rebound, putting Cincinnati up, 2-0.
The Cyclones remained in the driver's seat throughout the remainder of the third, and received empty-net goals from Ambroz and Minella to propel Cincinnati to the 4-0 win.
Thiessen was perfect in net, stopping all 18 shots he faced to collect his first shutout of his Cyclones career. Cincinnati outshot Toledo, 23-18 on the night, while the power play went 1-for-6. The Cyclones head out on their longest road trip of the season next, starting Saturday night against the South Carolina Stingrays. Faceoff is slated for 7:05pm ET.
