Adirondack Thunder News Release
Glens Falls, NY - The Adirondack Thunder have announced the details around the second annual Walk-A-Thon / Skate-A-Thon to benefit the Double H Ranch in Lake Luzerne, N.Y.
The event will be held at the Glens Falls Civic Center on Sunday, January 10, from noon until 3:00 p.m. Thunder players and staff, along with our mascot, Gunnar, will be at the Glens Falls Civic Center to skate and meet and greet with fans and families. The event will cost $20 for adults and $15 for kids, with all proceeds being donated to the Double H Ranch in Lake Luzerne, NY. Your donation will include the event with the Thunder, a complimentary flex ticket, donated by the Thunder, a free T-shirt, provided by the Double H Ranch and food and refreshments in the Civic Center lobby.
An on-ice clinic with Thunder players will be conducted from noon until 1:00 p.m. on the ice for anyone interested in playing with the Thunder team. After the clinic, the skate-a-thon will commence from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., with all fans having the opportunity to skate on the Civic Center ice. The walk-a-thon will be held from noon until 3:00 p.m. on the Civic Center's main bowl. Fans will have the opportunity to meet Thunder players throughout the afternoon.
The Hyde Museum and World Children's Awareness Museum have both partnered with the event and will be presenting children's activities. Snacks and drinks are being donated by Fitzgerald Bros. and Freihofer's. Lunch can be purchased at this year's event for a small fee from the Olde Post Grille.
The Thunder and Double H are encouraging teams of walkers and skaters, but individual participants are welcomed to participate. To sign up for the Walk-A-Thon and Skate-A-Thon, download the event form at http://getinvolved.holeinthewallgang.org/site/TR?fr_id02&pg=entry or http://www.echlthunder.com/news/?article_idC0.
In 2014-15, the Adirondack Flames and Double H Ranch created "A Step (or Skate) in the Right Direction", a health and happiness Walk-A-Thon and Skate-A-Thon. The event raised over $5,000, which was all donated to the Double H Ranch.
Thunder players and staff members are also planning to pay a visit to the Ranch during the month of February, when school kids are on break from classes. Mathieu Tousignant, Bryce Van Brabant, Sena Acolatse and Turner Elson visited the ranch last season to experience their on-site mountain and skiing facility with the campers.
"We're thrilled to be able to continue our relationship with the Double H Ranch and to build off of the successes we had last season with the Walk-A-Thon and Skate-A-Thon events," Adirondack Thunder President Brian Petrovek said. "Hosting the event, in partnership with the Glens Falls Civic Center, gives us, along with our fans and sponsors, the chance to support the Ranch while getting an opportunity to meet and interact with our players and staff in a fun and enjoyable setting and get some exercise at the same time."
"The Double H Ranch is thrilled to partner with the Adirondack Thunder for the second year on a Walk/Skate to benefit the Double H Ranch," Robin DeMattos, Corporate and Special Events Manager for the Double H Ranch said. "Without these special community partnerships the Double H Ranch programming would not be possible."
The mission of the Double H Ranch is to provide specialized programs and year-round support for children and their families dealing with life-threatening illnesses. Their purpose is to enrich their lives and provide camp experiences that are memorable, exciting, fun, empowering, physically safe and medically sound. All programs are FREE of charge and capture the magic of the Adirondacks.
