South Carolina Stingrays News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 23 seasons in the Lowcountry and proud affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL), announced today that defenseman Bobby Shea has been recalled by the club's American Hockey League affiliate, the Hershey Bears.
Shea has appeared in all 31 games for the Stingrays this season, registering 12 points (three goals, nine assists) and posting a +14 mark on the season. He has also racked up 84 penalty minutes to lead the team.
The 25-year-old native of Harrison Township, Michigan was a member of the Reading Royals 2013 Kelly Cup Championship team. He skated with Hershey during the preseason before being reassigned to the Stingrays. He has recorded 12 points in 53 career AHL games, spending time with the Rockford Ice Hogs and Hamilton Bulldogs.
Last year, Shea split time with the ECHL's Wheeling Nailers, scoring 10 points (two goals, eight assists) in 36 games, and the Bulldogs, where he notched five points (one goal, four assists) in 24 games.
Prior to turning pro, Shea played junior hockey with the United States Hockey League's Green Bay Gamblers, and then enjoyed a standout four-year career at Bowling Green State University. He appeared in 139 games over four seasons at Bowling Green, scoring nine goals and 27 assists to go with 239 penalty minutes. While at Bowling Green, he was selected to CCHA All-Conference Second Team.
