Elmira Jackals News Release
Reading, PA- The Elmira Jackals ran into a spoiling Reading Royals hockey club that was coming off of a big 5-4 win in Wheeling last Saturday. The Royals kept the spoiling ball rolling with a 4-1 win tonight over the Jackals in front of 4,061 fans at the Sovereign Center. Royals net minder Michael Ouzas turned away 35 shots in the Royals win.
The Jackals opened the scoring just 3:01 into the first period when Benoit Doucet took his own rebound behind the net and centered it to the waiting Chaz Johnson who struck for this third goal of the season. Chris Korchinski also assisted. Elmira held onto the 1-0 lead and a 11-9 shot advantage after the first period.
The Royals dominated period number two with three unanswered goals. The first came at the 7:23 mark, Ben McLeods' 11th of the year. Ben Gordon then netted his 16th of the year at the 15:44 mark to give Reading their first lead of the game. Vince Rocco then tallied his third of the year at the 17:14 mark to extend the lead to 3-1.
The Jackals were held scoreless in the third period due to solid goalkeeping from Michael Ouzas who turned away all 14 Elmira shots in the third. The Royals would add an empty net goal with 33 seconds to play in the game, Dan Rudisuela's 20th. Trailing 4-1, the Jackals then took out their aggressions with fights from Chris Korchinski, Bear Trapp and Guillaume Lepine, all with under 30 seconds to play in the game.
